You Shouldn’t Be Offended

Last Sunday evening, Janet and I were on our way home from Kentucky and stopped to worship with a congregation that shall remain nameless. We went in and sat down. The first person to speak to us was a lady and she said, "We're glad to have you, but tonight is singing night. I'm sorry!" I was offended. But, then I thought, why be offended? I was there to worship and worship in song was what I did.

Now, are you in the habit of missing singing night here at Smithville because you won't, can't or don't sing? When was the last time you attended Sunday night or Wednesday night services? Shame on you! You shouldn't be offended just start coming!

As a parent are you too tired or lazy to get you kids to Bible class or to a youth activity that is going on? Shame on you! You shouldn't be offended — just get them involved!

Are you a member who does no more than walk in the door, go directly to your "appointed" seat without speaking to anyone? Then, after services you get up and are one of the first ones out the door? Shame on you! You shouldn't be offended -- just be friendlier!

Do you spend your time during worship passing notes, texting, going to get a drink of water, roaming the foyer and halls, etc? Shame on you! Von shouldn't he offended just focus more on worshipping God!

Do you attend the services with a chip on your shoulder, looking for all the things you can find wrong with everything and everybody? Shame on you! You shouldn't be offended — just look for the positive rather than the negative!

Are you one who never gets involved with any of the programs and activities of the church? Shame on you! You shouldn't be offended - just be a part of the family!

Do you shirk your responsibilities in a ministry area by not giving your best effort and doing the job to please God? Shame on you! You shouldn't be offended — just do better!

Are you the kind of person that is easily offended? Shame on you! You shouldn't be offended!!!!

For His Cause,
Tim Woodward
