You Provide The Light

A traveler once approached a small French village just as the darkness of night was falling. Men and women were scurrying through the streets. The traveler noticed that each person carried a lantern despite the streets already being lit by lamps. When he asked the reason, he received this reply, "These people are going to the village house of worship. When we built the meeting house, it was decided that each member would bring his own light to evening worship. There is no other way to light the building. Everyone realizes that if he is not present, the building will be darker."

The traveler was curious, so he joined the villagers at evening worship. There he found that each seat had a place to hang the lighted lantern. As more and more members came in, the building grew brighter and brighter.

Do you realize that the church is darker when you are absent from your regular place on Sunday and Wednesday evenings? Your light is needed! The Psalmist said in Psalm 122:1, "I was glad when they said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord!' The Hebrew writer states in 10:25, "...not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

Do you look forward to the times that the saints assemble together to worship and praise God and to encourage one another? How bright will your light be tonight?
