VBS - Time to Plant the Seed?

1. VBS Provides the Perfect Condition to Plant Seeds: "Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God" (Luke 8:11). Have you considered the characteristics of a seed? It looks dead, but there is literally life in it. In the right conditions it will grow and even produce. The word of God may just look like any other book to some, but as Christians we recognize that it is far from being just a book! "For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword..." (Hebrews 4:12). The right condition that the seed has to find is a fertile heart; not one that ignores the teaching of God ( Luke 8:5 like the wayside, hard path) or a shallow or insincere heart that is quick to commit but not count the cost (Luke 8:6; Luke 14:28-30). One condition that at first can look favorable becomes unfavorable due to a lack of persistence. When cares, riches, and pleasure distract the heart, the seed cannot grow enough to produce fruit (Luke 8:14). The right condition for the seed to grow is an honest and good heart (Luke 8:15). Most children have a good and honest heart. They have a perfect environment for the word of God to grow. VBS is a perfect time to plant.

2. Remember that Life Can Remain in the Seed for Years: The seed may not germinate and grow for years, but that doesn't mean it never will! Vacation Bible School gives us more opportunities to plant God's seed into more lives in one week than perhaps anything else we do all year. Do you realize how a child is empowered when they know that God loves them and will never forsake them? This child may only come as a guest and not attend church anywhere else for years. But when he or she begins to ask about "the meaning of life" and "where to find purpose," that seed will then have the opportunity to sprout! When a person decides they want more out of life than what the world offers or when a person decides they want to find God, we want them to remember that Smithville church of Christ will help them spiritually! Don't underestimate how important it is to place within a child the realization that they know where to turn.

3. The Seed Grows Better when Fertilized with Christ's Love: To all who are working with these children we would say, "Let them see the love of God in the way you interact with them" (in 13:34-35). To the teachers we would say, "Let them see how much you love the powerful Word of God." Join the Psalmist with words like, "Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day" (Psalms 119:97).

It's VBS TIME!

It's Time to Plant Seed. Let's grow a bumper crop!
