Spread the Word
Luis Palau grabs us by the ears with the following statement about the church: "The church is like manure. Pile it up, and it stinks up the neighborhood; spread it out, and it enriches the world." The church always enriches people's lives when she spreads the good news of the gospel. The headlines are filled with bad news of murder, mayhem, war, violence, corruption, and the worst that human beings can do. The gospel gives us a load of good news to counter all that rotten stuff! The gospel tells us about the great things God has done! The gospel still says, "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16), and, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned" (Mark 16:15-16). Any effort to spread the good news of the gospel is a good effort. Allow me to encourage you to do all you can to enrich both your own and someone else's life by planning to attend every service and also to bring someone with you.
Acts 8:4 tells us the early church "went everywhere preaching the word." The following passages reveal their deep commitment to spread the gospel. In their determination to enrich their world, they preached Christ:
•in the temple and house to house (Acts 5:42; 20:20).
•everywhere (Acts 8:4).
•in homes (Acts 9:17; 10:24ff).
•in synagogues (Acts 13:5; 14:1; 17:10; 18:4; 19:8).
•by a riverside (Acts 16:13-15).
•outside a prison cell (Acts 16:25-33).
•in the marketplace (Acts 17:17).
•in a schoolhouse (Acts 19:9).
•in an upper room (Acts 20:7-8).
•just outside a military barracks (Acts 21:37).
•in a rented house (Acts 28:30-31).
May God bless us with the same joyful commitment to spread the good news of Christ!
