There are some things in life that happen to us and at the time we don't understand the significance of it. And sometime later we are able to draw a spiritual conclusion to it.

To begin with, let's go back some 40 years ago. My father had planted a garden and was very careful to push down a stick in the ground to mark where the corn stopped and the beans started. He would push another stick in the ground for the potatoes. Another for the beets, and so on. Well, I wasn't around to know what was going on. So, the next day I came to my father with all those sticks and said, "Somebody stuck all these old sticks in your new garden." I was S-O-O proud of myself for taking the initiative to do a good work. All my father said was "Thank you." I was disappointed. It wasn't until next spring that I got to learn firsthand what those sticks were for.

I thought to myself later on in life as I reflect back on that incidence of how many hurtful things in life come from good intentions. We sometimes think all evil comes from evil hearts, but this is not true. The Jewish people crucified Christ out of ignorance. Paul was persecuting the church in all good conscience. Many today preach and teach error with good intentions. Mistakes have been made in various professions, all with good intentions. However, this does not change the damage done.

What do you do when the markers are all gone? You wait for the crop to come up. Then you know where you planted corn and where you planted beans. They look nothing alike. This is the acid test of a life's work. "Whatsoever a man sows, that will he reap" (Gal. 6:7).

We find ourselves living in a world where all the spiritual and moral markers have all been pulled up. Once we knew what was right and wrong, what was black and white, but with the markers all gone good is called evil and evil is called good. The results – spiritual chaos. We need to get back to the markers....the Book! Study to show yourself approved unto God!
