I COME TO WORSHIP GOD
There once was an old man who lived six miles from the church. He had to travel a rough and rocky road. Even though he had a bad case of rheumatism, he came every Sunday, rain or shine, riding a gray mare.
At church he always occupied the pew nearest the pulpit, and kept his eyes fixed on the preacher. Being very deaf, he always carried a trumpet to hold to his ear. One day the preacher met the old man in town. The preacher put his mouth to the old man's trumpet and asked, "Brother, can you hear my sermons'?"
"Not a word," he answered.
Then the preacher yelled again, "Then why do you come to church if you can't hear me preach?"
Well, the preacher never forgot the old man's rebuke, for he meekly replied, "I go to church to worship God." He continued, '"Have you ever noticed how I look into your face while you are preaching? I thank God for your message and ask Him to work in the lives of those who can hear the sermon. If you appear discouraged, I pray for God to give you strength."
That old man preached a sermon six miles long every Sunday! What kind of sermon are you preaching today?
