HIS NEIGHBOR WAS HIS SON
A medical doctor was enjoying a much needed and much deserved vacation with his family aboard a luxury cruise liner.
One morning he was strolling the deck when he noticed quite a commotion at the other end of the ship. He inquired of a passing steward what the cause of that commotion might be. He was told that a passenger had fallen overboard, but that the passenger had been rescued and doctors were applying artificial respiration. The doctor thought about getting involved, but he reminded himself that he was on vacation and that, anyway, the ship's doctors probably were more than adequate for the situation.
Nevertheless, his curiosity drew him to the scene. When he was close enough to see what was happening, he recognized the passenger who had fallen overboard was his own son! Immediately his casual attitude of indifference vanished and he was totally involved in everything that was happening.
2000 years ago a father sent his son "overboard" out of a deep love for mankind. After the son suffered a horrible death his father rescued him and brought him back to be with him. Today, you and I are to act upon that great love and do away with an attitude of indifference as we completely and totally become involved in everything that is happening. For some it might mean attending on a more regular basis. For others it may mean getting involved in some of the activities and ministries that the church offers. Whatever the case, we all have to ask ourselves on a regular basis if we are a participant or are we just standing in the crowd watching with the rest of the onlookers.
