Have You Fallen Off The Wagon?

(or know somebody who has)

A family, all nine of them, loaded all their earthly possessions into a covered wagon pulled by a four-horse hitch and set out to join 14 other families leaving Arkansas headed for Texas and the promise of a new land. Rolling through rain storms, hail, blistering hot days, and fighting off insects at night and wild animals during the day, the wagons rolled across the plains of what is today Oklahoma.

One afternoon a cloud of dust appeared on the horizon behind the group, and the wagon master halted the group and drew them closer together in a circle. The men reached for their rifles while the women gathered the children together into the center of the wagons. In a few moments it became apparent that the dust was coming from a lone rider carrying a parcel across his saddle.

Slowing his horse to a walking gait, the man called out that he meant no harm. The horse stopped, the man got down, reached for the bundle and unwrapped a small child no more than two years old. A cry of recognition tore from the throat of the baby's mother when she saw her seventh child lying in the arms of the strange man. The child had not been missed. He had fallen from the wagon and the cowboy had found him lying in the dirt waiting for someone to come back for him.

How many people do you know that were on life's "wagon train" headed for the promised land, but have fallen off the wagon? Being so intent on our busy schedule in life we sometimes do not miss those of God's children who fall off along the way or don't take any action to go back and get them. Paul wrote to the brethren in Galatia and said, "Brothers, if anyone is caught up in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." (Gal. 6: 1 -2).

Maybe you're someone who's on the verge of falling off and no one seems to notice. Take the initiative and pull yourself back on the "wagon" and continue on the journey to heaven!
