Do You Need Indigestion
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom ... " Psalm 111:10.
It was just another day at the University until the quiet was interrupted by the sound of a siren. It was the siren of an ambulance racing onto campus and heading for the Humanities building. Students and staff members anxiously gathered to see what was going on. After several anxious moments they saw the Emergency Medical personnel bring the head of the Philosophy department out on a stretcher and load him into the ambulance.
On the way to the hospital, there was a commotion in the back of the ambulance. After a few moments the attendant in the back told the driver to pull over up ahead. They stopped at a church building where the Philosophy professor demanded to be baptized for the remission of his sins. The baptism was performed, the man loaded back into the ambulance, and they sped off to the hospital.
As it turned out, the professor thought he was having a heart attack but was only experiencing severe indigestion. The dilemma then became very apparent. Chairmen of University Philosophy departments are expected to be agnostic, even atheistic. How could he now go back to work with his colleagues having tipped his philosophic hand? He had revealed that what he taught was not what he believed and he kept putting off what he knew he needed to do. Sound familiar? Are you putting off doing what you need to do? Maybe you need to pray for a good case of indigestion!
