ARE YOU KILLING TIME?

Hector Berlioz spoke a sobering truth about time with these words- "Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils."Sometimes people are heard to say they are just "killing time," but time cannot be killed. In spite of millions who say they are "killing time," time is still flying by at breakneck speed.Every second takes us further along the river of time that in the end carries us into the ocean of eternity.Every day we live, twenty four non-renewable hours disappear, never to be seen again, no matter how hard or long we search for them.As Benjamin Franklinsaid, "Lost time is never found again."We delude ourselves if think we can kill time when in reality time is killing us.

We can use time or abuse time, but we cannot kill time. With every tick-tock of the clock time is slowly running out.For that very reason the Bible admonishes us to make the most of the time God has given each of us.Our most precious treasure is not silver and gold but time, and daily there are many thieves who would seek to steal this treasure. For this reason the apostle Paul admonishes in Ephesians 5:15-16- "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil."The New American Standard Bible translates verse 15 of this passage-"making the most of your time, because the days are evil."What are you doing to make the most of your time?

Jesus made the most of His time.John 9:4 reveals His heavenly perspective on the use of time-"I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day;the night is coming when no one can work."Jesus was never in a hurry, but neither was He ever found "killing time." Singer Clint Black reminds us to make the most of our time in his 1993 song"There's No Time To Kill."The first verse of that song grabs us by the ears with these gripping words- "There's no time to kill between the cradle and the grave. Father Time still takes a toll on every minute that you save. Legal tender is never gonna change the number on your days. The highest cost of livin's dyin',that's one everybody pays. So have it spent before you get the bill, there's no time to kill."2001 stretches out before us as a brand new year.We have every reason to believe it will fly by just as swiftly as all the years that have gone before it.We can't afford to kill time because there is no time to kill.Make the most of your time this year by living and working for God.
